Welcome To NC News October 10, 1997
NC News needs you! We are the only truly independent NC publication on the Internet. We are not affiliated with any hardware, or software manufacturer, nor are we beholding to any individual, corporation, or publication. NC News has sought to be a guiding force in the emerging network computing market since the day Larry Ellison announced his NC Dream. Our primary goal has never been our own personal profit. Our goal is simply to be a valuable resource that provides, and archives, information that we believe will help to achieve the benefits network computing can provide for everyone. NC News is not wishy-washy. In fact, we are sometimes acccused of being biased. Thank you! We openly admit it. We're very biased toward open standards that benefit everyone rather than proprietary standards that benefit a select few. Are we biased toward any one make, or brand, of hardware/software? Certainly not. If you doubt it, send us your company's press release. NC News was among the first sites to recognize the value of Java. From our first applet, to our great Java Chat room, to our large, cool, Java Gameroom, it should be clear that we've believed in Java all along. Why? Because we know it will gradually free businesses, and consumers from the proprietary grip of few large hardware/software companies. Java's "write once, run anywhere" promise helps to eliminate the "developer's edge" that has built up in a single software company that owns the operating system it's software programs run on. Bill Gates calls the race for Java a "religion". Is that supposed to be an insult? He has also said publicly that Java "is no holy grail". Well, Mr. Gates, Java isn't about religion. Java is a new gold rush! Its a redistribution of wealth. An opportunity for any man to succeed. Cross-platform Java provides the opportunity for any man to write an applet that earns him a small chunk of what Bill is getting! (We don't think Bill likes that idea.) The same is true of the Internet in general. The Internet is isn't great because of any one company that is on it. Nor should it be. The Internet is great because of the wealth of new opportunities it provides. On the Internet, any man can have an idea and share it, publish software and sell it, create a dream, and build it. NC News seeks to provide the latest information about emerging network computing tools, and trends on a daily basis. Our Advertising Benefits Include:
