Netscape To Be Bundled With CD Recorder Software

August 28, 1996

Maintaining its aggressive strategy to provide CD-Recordable (CD-R) software solutions for the Internet and Intranet, Elektroson, a worldwide leader in the development of CD-R software, today announced WebGrabber, the first-ever software utility application that installs directly onto a Web browser and allows users to seamlessly download Web content, including audio, graphics and text files, directly from the Internet to a CD. In support of this groundbreaking product, Elektroson has entered into an OEM agreement with Netscape Communications Corporation making Netscape Navigator 3.0 Internet client software the first Web browser to be bundled with WebGrabber. WebGrabber will be the first of a series of Grabber products and is expected to be available in September for a SRP of $79.95.

The initial version of WebGrabber will integrate the popular Netscape Navigator client software with Elektroson's powerful GEAR CD-R software, which allows for seamless CD-recording and cross-platform CD-mastering.

"WebGrabber will be a landmark in the acceptance of CD-Recordable solutions as an easy and affordable standard for downloading and archiving the incredible wealth of information available on the Internet," said Dean Devlin, president of Elektroson. "As the Web continues to evolve at an accelerated rate, consumers and business people alike will find it incredibly valuable to store content on a permanent medium for regular usage."

"WebGrabber is an important tool that will let users store and archive online content quickly and easily," said Alex Edelstein, group product manager for Netscape Navigator. "It is another way Netscape Navigator is being used to integrate the power of the Internet into business and home use."
