New CDs Teach Visual J++

October 24, 1996

MindQ Publishing Inc. today introduced "Hands-on Java Programming Using Microsoft Visual J++" and "Java Programming and Core Class Libraries," the second and third CD-ROM-based software titles in the company's Java Programming Series.

MindQ debuts both CD-ROM-based tutorials at Software Developer '96 East, Web Pavilion #19, held October 28 through November 1, in Washington, D.C.

The new titles school programmers and software developers familiar with the basics of Java, helping to build new skills that bring Internet, World Wide Web and other applications to life with Java-driven multi-user networking and real-time interactivity.

The two new CD-ROMs carry forward the hands-on tutorial that begins MindQ's Java Programming Series -- "An Introduction to Programming Java Applets," introduced in May 1996 and designed for new and novice programmers not familiar with Java.

The three-disk Java Programming Series replaces boring technical books and seminars with the power of dynamic, interactive code examples, video, narration, hyperlinks, on-screen simulations, online help available at the click of a button, monster glossaries, and hands-on, step-by-step exercises within the development environment that provide feedback and additional instruction, reinforce lessons and apply newly-learned skills to real- world applications.

Hot links to Internet resources offer help and additional resources. "The human mind works most effectively when the same message is simultaneously communicated through multiple media," said Dr. Holger Opderbeck, president of MindQ.

"What better way to teach students how to master Java, the high-powered programming language, than with proven, next-generation learning tools? This is the better way to learn."

Hands-on Programming Using Microsoft Visual J++

Just in time for programmers purchasing Microsoft Visual J++ 1.0, introduced Oct. 1, 1996, comes MindQ's "Hands-on Java Programming Using Microsoft Visual J++."

Hands-on exercises focus on buttons, menus, the Dialog Editor, Java Resource Wizard, Applet Wizard, Java Type Library Wizard, debugger, text editor and project organization, among others. Examples explain in detail how Visual J++ supports user interfaces, threads, animations and how to use and integrate ActiveX controls with Java.

This is not just a stand-alone tutorial. Users may run exercises from the CD-ROM within a Microsoft Visual J++ application, providing a truly interactive learning experience.

Java Programming and Core Class Libraries "Java Programming and Core Class Libraries" guides programmers through the maze of Java's class libraries. It explains the basics to handling and packaging, and provides detailed, animated examples on multithreading, the Java Abstract Window Toolkit, string manipulation, input and output, and more.

Extensive sample code examples focus on how to use the Java Abstract Window Toolkit to build graphical user interfaces with menus, buttons and grids. Other examples detail how to write both applets and applications that take advantage of the pre-built code that comes with Java, to help programmers build programs faster and more easily.
