Triteal Extends SoftNC Java Desktop To Windows, UNIX and Macintosh

December 12, 1996

At the Fall Internet World Show this week, TriTeal Corporation (NASDAQ: TEAL) is introducing technology that makes it much easier for organizations to realize the business benefits of network computing.

The company's new SoftNCT technology is a 100 percent Java-based desktop environment that enables users to access native, legacy and Java applications from virtually anywhere on an enterprise network. Users can run the same applications from a personal computer, workstation or NC, in the desktop environment they already know.

"Network-centric computing holds the promise of controlling enterprise computing costs by making software administration, training and development more efficient," said TriTeal CEO Jeff Witous. "At Comdex we announced SoftNC technology that enables Network Computer (NC) users to access both Java and legacy applications. Today we are introducing SoftNC technology that equips personal computers and workstations for network-centric computing, regardless of their underlying platform. This will help companies reverse the fragmentation that is increasing their computing costs today, and begin their transition to the next generation of enterprise computing."

SoftNC technology enables enterprises to configure a cross- platform desktop that will follow users throughout the organization. Using an e-mail address, a desktop URL or a smart card, users can log on to any SoftNC-equipped device and have their personal desktop delivered to them regardless of the operating system or hardware platform at which they are sitting. The file management, session management, and desktop look and feel can be the same as those users already know, and they are equipped to access applications from any other platform that supports a Java Virtual Machine (JVM.)

"SoftNC reinforces and extends the power of Java to offer a `write-once run-anywhere' desktop environment that greatly eases administration and training burdens while providing the basics for transparent computing," said Jeffrey Morgenthal, program director at D.H. Brown Associates, Inc.

SoftNC occupies only 1.5 MB of memory and is layered on top of the native operating system. At its technology suite at Fall Internet World, TriTeal will demonstrate SoftNC running on Microsoft NT, Microsoft 95 and NC platforms. SoftNC will also be demonstrated on Sun Microsystems' Solaris UNIX operating system running on a Sun SparcStation at the Java Pavilion in Booth 3304.
