New Software Enables Real-time Cross Platform App. Sharing December 20, 1996
NetManage, Inc. (Nasdaq: NETM), a leading provider of standards-based IntraNet software, today announced it has acquired Applicom Industries' DoubleAgent application sharing and remote access technology. DoubleAgent is a revolutionary technology that enables two or more participants to work together simultaneously on Microsoft Windows 32-bit software applications over the World Wide Web. The DoubleAgent collaboration technology will be integrated into NetManage's popular Chameleon (tm) ATX family and other new NetManage software products. "The simultaneous application-sharing technology embodied in DoubleAgent is going to take the IntraNet and the Internet a giant leap forward," said Zvi Alon, president and CEO of NetManage. "DoubleAgent and our existing audio/video conferencing technology provide the foundation for complete real-time collaboration solutions for our customers." "NetManage is the perfect company to take DoubleAgent technology to the next stage," said Eliezer Oren, president and CEO of Applicom Industries. "The market is ready for this technology now -- and NetManage has in place a large worldwide installed base of customers as well as the strong sales, marketing, and support vital to insuring that DoubleAgent will be a success." About DoubleAgent DoubleAgent is a unique technology that supports real-time collaboration between two or more users with Web browsers, provided at least one user is working on any Windows 95 or Windows NT system. Users can share applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or any Windows application. For the first time, multiple users, on any system (PC, UNIX, Mac, JavaStation, Internet Terminal), from anywhere (over the IntraNet or the Internet), can simultaneously work with most popular Windows applications, or custom applications. The technology consists of two elements -- the DoubleAgent program, which runs on the originator's Windows 95 or Windows NT based computer, and the DoubleAgent browser "plug-in". This "plug-in" works with most popular browsers including Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. The DoubleAgent functionality is also available through a Java applet. Now any Java enabled computer can participate in cross-platform application sharing sessions greatly expanding the usability of Java stations or Network Computers. Since DoubleAgent requires only a browser, it lets people collaborate regardless of their physical location or hardware platform (PC, UNIX, Mac, JavaStation, Internet Terminal). A downloadable beta version of the DoubleAgent application is available now at www.dblagent.com. About Applicom Industries Applicom Software Industries Ltd.
