IBM To Present NC Offerings At Singapore's Internet World

December 19, 1996

IBM's general manager for Asia and South Asia, George Samenuk, says network computing, his company's pet theme, will be his key initiative for the region. IBM is to showcase some of its offerings that leverage the technology that links businesses, governments and individuals at Singapore's own Internet World next month.

He is excited about such IBM offerings as Commerce Point, Digital Libraries and Petrol Connect. He is also upbeat about the Electronic Procurement Service (EPS), a network that links the Singapore government to its suppliers, automating the whole procurement cycle. "It is a good example of how network computing can help governments and companies become more effective and efficient," he said.

Without going into details, he said IBM would be investing more in the region, especially in the areas of consulting, systems integration and managed operations. The investments would also involve hiring hundreds of people, he added.

Samenuk said the Asian/SA region was the best place for any IT vendor to be at right now because people are absorbing technology more rapidly than anywhere else in the world. He felt Vietnam and India particularly offered scope for high growth.
