Netscape Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: NSCP) has announced that nine leading enterprise client/server software companies have joined the recently announced Netscape AppFoundry program for building Intranet applications. These companies represent the first wave of client/server application vendors who are adapting their packaged software products for corporate Intranets using technologies from the Netscape ONE(TM) open network environment. The nine new companies participating in Netscape AppFoundry are: Arbor Software Corp., Aurum Software, Inc., Broadvision, Inc., Dun & Bradstreet Software, Information Dimensions, Lawson Software, OneWave, Scopus and Simware.
The Netscape AppFoundry program facilitates the development of Intranet applications by providing IS Managers and enterprise developers with a collection of reusable business applications designed for use on Intranets and powerful developer tools based on Java(TM), JavaScript(TM) and other technologies from the Netscape ONE standards-based platform.
"Netscape AppFoundry is generating a high level of interest and excitement among two key communities - corporate IS professionals and independent software vendors," said Mike Homer, senior vice president of marketing at Netscape. "Their interest is fueling the rapid expansion of the program and in turn, making it even easier for customers to deploy Intranet applications in the enterprise that solve real business problems."
As members of Netscape AppFoundry, the nine companies plan to adapt packaged client/server enterprise applications from their existing software suites to run on the Netscape ONE platform. They will also moderate online discussion forums on their individual areas of expertise as part of the new Netscape AppFoundry Online community. Many will also showcase demonstration applications on the Netscape AppFoundry Online site.
"Our customers are excited and eager to take advantage of Intranet-based applications," said Jim Johnson, lead architect and Internet product director for Dun & Bradstreet Software. "Netscape AppFoundry provides us with the means to showcase our applets on the world's largest Internet site and in addition, the opportunity to demonstrate our ability to provide powerful, cross-platform, enterprise solutions."
