Nine IBM Business Partners Demonstrate Viability Of NC February 20, 1997
INTERNET EXPO--Client/Server Technology Ltd. (CST) demonstrated today Java-enabled applications from nine IBM Business Partners running on the IBM Network Station. This is the first time that host-based on-line transaction processing (OLTP) applications have been enabled with feature-rich graphical clients delivered in Java. The ability to successfully run these applications on the IBM Network Station was achieved using CST's new Jacada(TM) product, an automated generation technology that delivers a feature-rich Java client for mainframe and midrange applications. The nine IBM business partners who demonstrated this technology are ActionWare, Ceridian's TesserAct division, CheckFree Software Solutions, Computer Associate's Acacia division, Friedman Corp., Infinium Software Inc. (formerly Software 2000 Inc.), Marcam Corp., Pace Financial Corp., and Synon Corp. The applications are in accounting, banking, human resource planning, call center and sales management, healthcare information management, manufacturing enterprise resource planning and workers' compensation. Demonstrations of these Java-enabled applications are available through CST's homepage. "To achieve this milestone is strong proof in the viability of the network computing model," said David Holmes, vice president, marketing, for Client/Server Technology Ltd. "Providing graphical access to enterprise applications on low-cost of ownership network computers, now provides the cost/benefit justification that companies need to replace their non-programmable terminals." CST's Jacada is a product that generates Java clients for host-based applications, without requiring any change to the existing application. It is the first and only rules-based automated generation technology to generate a Java client which works in cooperation with but independent of internet browsers, web servers and HTTP to provide a persistent, secure transaction processing environment. With Jacada, businesses can deploy an OLTP-capable architecture for their mission critical applications -- leveraging their existing intranet and the low-cost of ownership of network computers. The Java-delivered clients also enable the enterprise to provide internet access to their host applications as needed. Founded in 1990, Client/Server Technology Ltd. provides quality products and services for automating the generation of graphical clients for host-based applications. CST offers three products -- Jacada, GUISys and VBSys -- to automatically generate desktop graphical clients for host applications running on mainframe and midrange platforms. GUISys automatically generates a Windows graphical client. VBSys automatically generates the new client application in fully functional Visual Basic. Jacada is a web-enabling generation technology which generates the client in Java. Customers include leading Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), Value Added Resellers and large multinational corporate accounts.
