The NTRIGUE Client for Java will ship as part of the NTRIGUE Product Enhancement Pack (PEP) 1.0 this month.

* First 'power' Java application to deliver Windows to Java desktops

* Supports all Java virtual desktops

* Extends ability to run Windows-based applications to all Java-supported platforms and browsers

* Allows corporations to embrace all desktops in their Windows NT strategy

* Included in NTRIGUE Product Enhancement Pack (PEP) 1.0, available now

"The NTRIGUE Client for Java marks the first Java application to deliver real, usable applications to corporate users today," said William J. McCarthy, Insignia's senior vice president and general manager for the NTRIGUE product group. "It provides an excellent integration solution for companies who want to standardize on Windows and Windows NT line of business and productivity applications across all platforms by allowing them to use those applications on their Java-based desktops."

NTRIGUE client for Java

Based on the Keoke technology, the NTRIGUE Client for Java is a Java applet that is transparently downloaded from an Intel-based server running NTRIGUE to any Java desktop. This thin client allows the Java desktop to access the NTRIGUE server and run Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows 3.x applications. The NTRIGUE Client for Java works with all Java-enabled desktops, including the JavaStation(TM) and web browsers such as Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

The client will be bundled on Sun's JavaStations, allowing JavaStation users to connect to an NTRIGUE server and run Windows applications with a simple mouseclick. The NTRIGUE Client for Java extends the reach of Insignia's NTRIGUE Windows NT application server solution to an even wider range of desktops. NTRIGUE allows all enterprise desktops to access Windows applications over the corporate intranet and the Internet.

"With Keoke and NTRIGUE, companies can extend access to their business-critical Windows applications from any desktop," added Mr. McCarthy. "They can exploit the advantages of thin clients while standardizing on the Windows-based applications they need across the enterprise. NTRIGUE also supports the Zero Administration Initiative and reduces the cost of ownership by providing centralized management and eliminating the need to load and maintain applications on individual desktops."

Product Enhancement Program

Insignia's PEP program is made up of the proactive release of bug-fixes and service packs, as well as early access to new technology. It also includes comprehensive testing of combinations of bug fixes, service packs and new technology.

"The NTRIGUE Client for Java is a key part of the first release of our PEP program, which is designed to address the needs of enterprise customers for responsiveness, product and support quality, and the latest technology," continued Mr. McCarthy.

Keoke technology

Insignia's Keoke technology is a "thin" version of the standard X Window System graphics protocol which was designed and optimized for distributing graphics over a network. Keoke employs a subset of the X protocol and is optimized for distributing graphics over a LAN/intranet to Java desktops. Based on X, Keoke is a powerful and portable technology that can support all Java virtual machines, thereby eliminating customers' concerns about the inability to run Windows applications on Java desktops. The portability and openness of the Keoke technology ensures continued support for a wide range of desktops.
