NetFRAME Joins Citrix To Deliver Enterprise-class Server Hardware For Remote Computing January 22, 1997
NetFRAME Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:NETF), a leading supplier of continuous availability network servers, and Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTXS), a leader in multi-user Windows application server software, today announced that NetFRAME has joined Citrix's Industry Solutions Alliance, a growing coalition of industry vendors working to develop complementary products and markets for WinFrame multi-user application server software. NetFRAME will provide corporations with large-scale, enterprise-class server hardware that can be used to host WinFrame application server software for deploying mission-critical Windows applications to remote users over enterprise networks, corporate Intranets or the Internet. NetFRAME plans to deliver its first fully-integrated WinFRAME server solution in early 1997. The application deployment environment provided by NetFRAME and WinFrame will enable corporations to cost-effectively host mission-critical Windows applications on the second-generation NetFRAME NF9000 platform, thereby simplifying management of enterprise applications. WinFrame enables these applications to be accessed at LAN-like performance from a wide variety of client devices, including personal computers, thin-client network computers and Windows terminals, regardless of user location or bandwidth. "Many corporations are finding that WinFrame's innovative thin-client, server-based computing is an efficient way of providing users with cost-effective and powerful information services," said Randy Meyer, director of solutions and channel marketing at NetFRAME. "By moving application processing off the desktop and on to large-scale servers, corporations are able to give users access to the applications they want, while still controlling costs and systems management. With its high-throughput and scalable design, the NF9000 is an ideal platform for large-scale WinFrame environments." In addition to providing the industry's highest overall throughput in a standards-based server, the NetFRAME NF9000 also provides a comprehensive approach to server availability. With hardware fault tolerance, software error resilience and on-line system management, repair and expansion, the NF9000 is designed to minimize downtime, regardless of its cause. "Continuous server availability is a key element of a business-critical WinFrame computing environment," said David Manks, strategic marketing manager for Citrix. "With its industry-leading system reliability and up-time features, we believe many customers will find the NetFRAME NF9000 an attractive server platform for WinFrame application server software." WinFrame multi-user application server software is an authorized extension to Windows NT Server under license from Microsoft. WinFrame helps organizations deploy Windows applications quickly, easily and cost-effectively, while maximizing return on technology investment. WinFrame extends the reach of enterprise applications to users over dial-up, LAN, WAN, Intranet and Internet connections, regardless of client hardware, operating system or available bandwidth.
