Oracle To Ship NC Software In April March 5, 1997
Oracle Corp.'s Network Computer Inc. division will release next month its first round of software products for network computers: two server software packages and client-side productivity applications. The servers, which must be used with NCs incorporating NCI's operating system, provide security and authentication. One server will be aimed at the ISP and corporate marketplace and run on several versions of Unix as well as Windows NT. The second, low-end server is designed to be "rolled into a closet" and will include routing capabilities, according to company officials. On the client side, devices using the NCI operating system will range from TVs to PDAs to traditional NCs. For the corporate marketplace, NCI is planning to provide a collection of productivity applications including E-mail, a scheduler and a word processor. Source: PC Week |
