Penumbra Software Announces New Visual Java Development Tools Feburary 3, 1997
Penumbra Software, Inc. announced today the release of Mojo Enterprise, a client/server version of its popular Mojo(TM) Java Development Environment (JDE). Mojo Enterprise targets corporate users who are creating intranet and internet solutions. "The main difference between this version and the Mojo Client is the added ability to link an application directly to a legacy database," said Michael Mittel, Vice President of Marketing. "With database support, applications can be built that are truly dynamic and specific." Database access is provided through an encapsulated JDBC interface. Mojo Enterprise includes a multitude of Data-Aware components, such as data-aware text fields, selection buttons, and database tables. Creating database access applications, which are capable of both database-access and updating using a three-tiered data-access mechanism, is as simple as dropping a data connection component and adding data-aware components to a form. Developers can also use the Database Wizard to create standard forms, then use Mojo's Designer to customize it. Client/Server With Mojo Enterprise's Client/Server Co-Development, both the client and server can be created and tested simultaneously. There is no need to stop work on the client to fix problems in the server. Mojo Enterprise provides blocked and streamed sockets for both the client and the server, making the creation of networking applications as easy as reading and writing data. "For general purpose Client/Server applications, developers will find that Mojo Enterprise is the ultimate solution," said Mr. Mittel. "Applications using real-time, streamed data-access (stock tickers) and multi-client environments can be created in less than a day." Mojo Enterprise versus Mojo 2.0: Mojo Enterprise includes all features, functionality, and components of Mojo 2.0 with the addition of Client/Server Co-Development (create both the client and server simultaneously), Server Components to build General Server applications, Client Component to interface with General Servers, JDBC/ODBC interfacing to existing databases, Extended JDBC functionality, Data Aware Components, Connection Components, Streamed Socket Components (for Real-Time Access), Blocked Socket Components (for traditional Client/Server application creation), Integrated String List Editor, Database Wizard Mojo Enterprise starts at a special introductory price of around $495 and can be purchased off-the-shelf at Egghead Software as well as from other major retail channels. The product can be purchased on-line through the company's website at www.PenumbraSoftware.com. Penumbra Software, Inc. is a privately held company operating in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area. The company was formed by a combination of experienced software executives and development talent from Georgia Tech for the sole purpose of creating, marketing, and supporting a comprehensive Java development environment.
