Intel To Integrate It's Internet Video Phone With InfoSpace People Directory January 8, 1997
InfoSpace, Inc., an innovator of Internet technology, today announced a strategic partnership with Intel (Nasdaq: INTC). The companies will integrate Intel's New Internet Video Phone with InfoSpace's People directory, the leading people finder on the Internet. The Intel Internet Video Phone adds a new dimension to Internet communications by allowing users to talk to each other and see each other while using other Internet applications, such as browsing the Web, exchanging photos, or playing games. The companies are working together to define standards for future Internet telephony products. Users will soon be able to download the free Internet phone from InfoSpace's site at http://www.infospace.com. InfoSpace's Directories will make it easy for users of the Intel Internet Video Phone to find each other on the Internet. The integrated nature of the InfoSpace service sets it apart from the white page services currently supporting find, click and talk Internet telephony. Through the InfoSpace service, users get rich search features, including maps and directions, all seamlessly integrated into leading search engines visited by millions of people per month. "InfoSpace is leading the directory industry with new ways of finding people and businesses over the Internet," said Patrick Gelsinger, vice president of Intel Internet and Communications Group. "Integration of InfoSpace's innovative directories will make it easier for Intel Internet Video Phone users to find and communicate with each other around the world." "InfoSpace is committed to helping people find and communicate with each other over the Internet," said Naveen Jain, President of InfoSpace. "InfoSpace is working with leading Internet telephony providers, such as Intel and Microsoft, to integrate Internet telephony with InfoSpace's leading on-line directory services." InfoSpace has been awarded with Simba's most prestigious awards for the "Best On-Line Directory" and also the "Most Innovative Directory Design". InfoSpace directory services are licensed and used by Lycos (Nasdaq: LCOS), Excite (Nasdaq: XCIT), Magellan, Compuserve (Nasdaq: CSRV), Playboy (NYSE: PLA), CommerceNet and most other popular web sites. InfoSpace recently announced a partnership with Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) and ViewCall America. ViewCall America's On-TV is available through Mitsubishi's DiamondWeb(TM) TV and Sega's Net Link. Through its relationship with Unwired Planet, the InfoSpace directories will also be available on cellular phones and pagers from AT&T wireless GTE Mobilnet (NYSE: GTE), Bell Atlantic (NYSE: BEL), NYNEX Mobile (NYSE: NYNEX), and other telecommunications companies. InfoSpace and Diba are working together to provide support for InfoSpace directories on future Diba Information Appliances.
