Charlotte, North Carolina To Host 1997 NetCom Convention

September 4, 1997

The latest in Internet services and capabilities will be on view September 17-18, as Charlotte hosts NetCom/Carolinas `97, the fourth annual Network Computing Solutions Conference and exposition at the Charlotte Convention Center.

IBM, Microsoft, 3Com, Cisco Systems, and Digital Equipment will be among the industry leaders showcasing their Internet products, along with such local companies as Interpath and WebServe. Internet classes will run continuously throughout the two days, covering such topics as Internet access and connectivity options, firewalls and Internet security, publishing on the Web, creating Web pages, and using the Internet for e-mail, voice, video and interactive business applications.

Keynote speaker Donna Van Fleet, vice president of IBM's Network Computer Division, will focus on the cost of ownership and other benefits of the stripped down "network computer" and share her vision of how organizations of all sizes can benefit from this product. Microsoft's Jim Haig will also address the cost of ownership issues by discussing two of his company's key productivity solutions: its Zero Administrative Initiative for Windows and the Network PC, which is designed to complement rather than replace existing PCs.

NetCom/Carolinas '97 features over 60 seminars, workshops and briefings on the technical and management challenges involved in planning and implementing integrated business solutions. It will also showcase the latest products from the leading vendors of computer hardware, software and networking products, including IBM, Digital Equipment, Microsoft, 3Com, Cisco Systems, Ascend Communications, Ascom Timeplex, Hummingbird, SMC and U.S. Robotics.

For more information on the conference, contact the NetCom office at (847) 390-9494. The $35 admission fee may be waived with the mention of this publication.

CCVB is a non-profit marketing organization that contributes to the economic development of Mecklenburg County by promoting the county as a site for meetings, conventions, and sports and events, and as a tourism destination.
