Lanworks And Boundless Sign OEM Agreement For Viewpoint TC Thin Clients September 3, 1997
Lanworks Technologies Inc., the world's leading supplier of network booting technology, today announced it has signed an agreement with Boundless Technologies Inc., a leading manufacturer of "thin-client" network computers, to license BootWare(R) for use in its Viewpoint(R) TC thin clients and for its internal quality assurance testing procedure. BootWare is the world's most popular network booting technology and allows PCs, NCs, thin clients and other networked devices to boot from a server rather than from a local drive. Boundless will offer the optional BootWare code with any of its Viewpoint TC models 100, 200 and 300 thin clients. Customers who require this additional functionality may simply contact any of Boundless' authorized dealers. "Boundless is a natural partner for Lanworks," explains 0EM Business Development Manager Jason Straw. "Their Viewpoint family of thin clients is designed for organizations that want to minimize cost of ownership while maximizing control and allowing for optional upgrades to fully functional PCs. BootWare fits with all possible configurations of the Viewpoint thin clients and is a great value-added feature for Boundless users." Boundless will also be using BootWare in its quality assurance testing. "While our Viewpoint TCs usually are equipped to boot locally, there are certain applications where remote boot is advantageous. All of our thin clients will be rigorously tested to ensure they can boot remotely from a server the first time and every time they are powered up," says Michael Stebel, vice president of global marketing at Boundless Technologies. "With BootWare, we can easily test the remote boot procedure and catch any potential problems before the units ship." The Viewpoint TCs from Boundless feature unique software upgradability that ends concerns for desktop hardware obsolescence as new computing platforms, such as JAVA™, emerge. Each model within the family is built on the same hardware platform, increasing flexibility and hardware longevity, thus protecting the user's investment. Boundless "customer-paced" migration strategy inherent in the Viewpoint thin clients, allows users to begin with text terminal applications (model 100), migrate to Windows(R) environment (model 200) and, when ready, move easily to local Internet/Intranet and JAVA applications (model 300) all via Boundless' Viewpoint Administrator software. Models 100 and 200 are currently available; Model 300 is expected to be released by end of year.
