HP's New DeskJet 670TV Printer Brings Internet-optimized Printing For $229 To WebTV And WebTV Plus System September 16, 1997
Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that the DeskJet 670TV printer, the industry's first and only printer designed exclusively for non-PC Internet devices, is scheduled to be available to customers in the United States beginning Oct. 31. The printer is expected to sell for about $229, which includes the printer's parallel cable. The arrival of the DeskJet 670TV printer expands HP's line of home printers and affirms HP's leadership position in this potentially large category of customers who want to print from the living-room television. The DeskJet 670TV printer is ideal for this segment of non-PC customers, who use the television to browse the Web and want to print Web-site information, photo images, maps, coupons and Internet e-mail quickly and easily. The printer will feature a sleek black design, making it a welcome component of the living-room entertainment center. "Last March, HP was proud to offer the first printing solutions for non-PC customers by making its popular line of DeskJet 400 and 600 series printers compatible with television devices such as WebTV," said Vyomesh Joshi, general manager of HP's Home Business Unit. "HP is building on that leadership with the DeskJet 670TV printer, which stands out as the industry's first and only printer optimized for non-PC Internet printing." Internet-Optimized Printing The DeskJet 670TV printer is optimized to produce the best-possible prints from the Internet. Because the vast majority of images found on the Internet are displayed at 72 dots-per-inch, HP has incorporated its exclusive SmartFocus technology, which automatically optimizes low-resolution images downloaded from the Internet to improve clarity and sharpness when printing. The result is crisp black text and sharpened images that take full advantage of the printer's high-quality black- and color-output capabilities. The DeskJet 670TV printer easily connects to WebTV Network's entire line of set-top Internet devices. The printer's driver is automatically and transparently delivered to each WebTV unit when the user turns it on. From there, Internet printing from a WebTV system amounts to a simple click of the television remote control.
