Quadbase Systems Inc. Ships 'All-Java' CyberChart Web Tool September 29, 1997
Quadbase Systems Inc. announces the release of CyberChart, a new product targeting the business intelligence market. CyberChart is an interactive WYSIWYG Web tool for producing Web-ready charts using a Java-enabled Web browser. The software is available for demonstration download from Quadbase's web site. "Scopus builds enterprise wide customer care applications and we have found that a tool like CyberChart is ideal for creating visually rich summaries showing the 'state of the enterprise' and making it available to decision makers over the Intranet. CyberChart's three-tier architecture gives it the ability to query heterogeneous databases which is important in fulfilling our customers needs," said Anil Nair, Scopus. CyberChart realizes the promise of Java software that will run anywhere. Users can design new charts by running the Designer Java applet in their web browser. Data for the charts can be generated directly from databases. The charts can be saved in two interactive formats as well as in the standard static formats such as GIF and BMP. These innovative formats allow charts to be posted on web pages and viewed interactively.
Viewers can query data points, and navigate around the chart in real-time. The template format allows for dynamic updating of the web pages. As the information on the underlying databases changes the charts change too. Every time a new viewer visits the page on which the chart sits they will see up-to-the-second information generated on the fly! CyberChart's three-tier architecture is unique. The Chart Designer component is completely written in Java and runs as an applet in any web browser. Its simple point-and-click and wizard-based interface generates attractive, professional-looking charts in a matter of seconds. The graphic charting module supports a comprehensive set of chart types in both two and three dimensions. The freely available Chart Viewer applet allows real-time manipulation of colors, fonts, data sets, scales, rotation, and animation. All the major database servers are supported including Oracle, DB2, Informix, Sybase, and Microsoft SQL Server. CyberChart runs on Windows NT, Windows 95, and Solaris with any Web Server. Any Java-enabled Web browser can be used for chart design and chart viewing. Source: Quadbase Systems Inc. |
