NCI Ranked As A Leading Software Company Defining The Digital Universe

August 26, 1997

Network Computer, Inc. (NCI) today announced that it has been named one of the top 100 Technology Companies by The Red Herring Magazine. In its first annual poll of the top fifty public and fifty private companies, The Red Herring recognized NCI as the "Best Long Term Potential" private company for its significant role in the emerging network computer market. In addition, NCI was ranked third in the "Best Partner" category due to its strong relationships with two Silicon Valley leaders -- Oracle Corp. and Netscape Communications Corp.

According to market analysts, the network computer market is expected to explode by the year 2000 in both homes and businesses. In a survey of the Fortune 100 companies, the Yankee Group found that 65% of companies planned to purchase network computers in the next two years. IDC estimates that 15 million network computers will be deployed in homes and businesses by the end of the century and Forrester Research estimates that network computers will capture 15 percent of the corporate market in the next several years.

"We're pleased to receive this honor from The Red Herring Magazine," said Jerry Baker, CEO of NCI. "This year NCI began fulfilling the demand for network computers by delivering the first complete family of software for corporations and consumers. As we move into the 21st century, our goal is to become the software leader of this next wave of computing."

Network Computer, Inc. (NCI) is a software innovator with a mission to deliver affordable and easy to use products that tap the power of the global Internet. Formed in 1996, NCI is an affiliate of Oracle Corp. and offers its network computer software and services to corporations, homes and communities.
