Spyglass Technology And Services Will Help Bring RCA Network Computer to Market in September July 23, 1997
Thomson Consumer Electronics' announcement last week of a September ship date for its RCA Network Computer marks another key event in the deployment of Spyglass Inc. (Nasdaq: SPYG) technology and services. Spyglass announced last month that they had signed a licensing and professional services agreement with Thomson, largest marketer of television receivers and related video products in North America, for technological support of the RCA Network Computer. According to Thomson, there is a potential market of 60 million television-equipped homes that the company wants to tap with the new product. Spyglass is participating in the development of an electronic programming guide (EPG), to be provided as part of the NetChannel personalized Internet service included in the RCA Network Computer. SurfWatch, a division of Spyglass, is also providing its industry-leading Internet filtering and parental control software in NetChannel's innovative Internet information and entertainment service. Through the revolutionary EPG, viewers will now have a single interface that seamlessly combines broadcast programming with related Web-based content. "The RCA NC is an innovative solution that seamlessly integrates TV broadcast programming with the rich content of the Internet through an interactive electronic programming guide," said Randy Littleson, Spyglass vice president of marketing. "This cost-effective solution is yet another example of how Spyglass technology and expertise is enabling a market leader to bring the mass market online." Spyglass is the leading provider of software and services to make non-PC devices work with the Web. The company's products enable Web connectivity through highly scalable embedded browsers and servers, and provides performance enhancements, content filtering and conversion through an integrated suite of infrastructure servers. Spyglass Professional Services offers custom engineering for defining, sourcing and delivering complete, end-to-end project solutions. Source: Spyglass Inc. |
