Paradyne Showcases New DSL SourceBook and Digital Access Products at Summer Internet World '97

July 17, 1997

Paradyne, a pioneer and leader in network access, unveils its newly published "DSL SourceBook: Plain Answers About Digital Subscriber Line Opportunities" and showcases the industry's most comprehensive, cost-effective array of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) products at Summer Internet World '97 on July 23-25, in Booth 228 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Product Demonstrations

Product demonstrations include the HotWire(tm) multiservices 8800 DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) and the multiservices 8600 stackable DSLAM (priced under $6,000), interoperating with HotWire remote endpoints (priced from $495). Paradyne's award-winning products optimize existing network investments, providing customers with the high-speed and bandwidth required for all forms of digital access: Internet/Intranet, telecommuting, email, remote connectivity and a host of other applications. Paradyne's high-speed, low-cost networking solutions with advanced network management enable Network Service Providers (NSPs), Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and Frame Relay Service Providers (FRSPs) to optimize existing technology and services to exceed customer network requirements.

Paradyne also showcases its new 7612 SNMP-managed DSU with Internal Ethernet LAN Adapter and the 7110 SNMP FT1/T1 DSU, which deliver Paradyne's proven performance, reliability, ease of use and installation, convenience and quality -- with very attractive pricing. Also featured is Paradyne's FrameSaver(tm) 9000 series -- the industry's first Frame Relay access system to provide network managers true end-to-end management with the tools to diagnose and fix network performance problems. FrameSaver allows managers to control costs, optimize performance and manage their public or private Frame Relay networks like they manage leased line networks.

Working with FrameSaver, Paradyne's exclusive Performance Wizard (tm) management software collaborates to provide user-friendly graphical displays of the health of the network, enabling customers to monitor network performance and make real-time adjustments. Paradyne's DCE network management application provides a real-time view of network and device status. These applications support a powerful WAN performance suite from the customer's HP OpenView console. The FrameSaver's frame multiplexing capabilities and prioritization supports deployment of Internet/Intranet networks.

"The DSL Sourcebook: Plain Answers About Digital Subscriber Line Opportunities"

Paradyne's paperback book provides text and illustrations on the existing copper infrastructure, DSL basics, required system components, DSL market evolution and deployment realities, emerging services and applications, network models, and a glossary of DSL-related terms to assist NSPs, ISPs, Corporate network managers, Resellers and Commercial users in making informed decisions about this exciting new market. Advanced copies of the book will be on hand at Paradyne's Booth 228. To inquire about the "DSL Sourcebook," send an email to HotWire@paradyne.com or call 800-PARADYNE or 813/530-2000.

Midband To Broadband Seminar

Frank Wiener, vice president and general manager of Paradyne's DSL products division will participate in a panel session sponsored by Mecklermedia entitled "MIDBAND TO BROADBAND" on Thursday, July 24 from 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is an ideal opportunity for NSPs to learn, first-hand about bandwidth challenges and opportunities. Wiener presented at Internet World L.A. in March, where his talk was embraced with enthusiasm and interest by the audience.

Hotwire DSL Products

While most of the industry is still talking trials, Paradyne has been deploying DSL solutions since last December. And now, Paradyne is deploying DSL at Summer Internet World `97! Registered press are invited to access the Internet via Paradyne's HotWire DSL products in the show's press room. Interview Chicago's leading ISP, InterAccess, who recently joined Paradyne's Partner Program and is now deploying its HotWire DSL-based services to Chicago businesses.

The HotWire 8600 was a BEST OF SHOW finalist at Networld + Interop `97. The 8600 Digital Subscriber Line Access Mux (DSLAM) is the industry's first stackable DSLAM and is the first in its class of multiservices DSLAMs to support Internet Protocol (IP), Frame Relay and Channelized (NxDS0) services. Uniquely, designed to enable NSPs to quickly, easily and incrementally deploy new DSL-based services, the HotWire 8600 multiservices DSLAM is priced at one-quarter of the price of some competitive configurations -- at less than $6,000 (U.S. list) for a basic configuration. Each of up to six stack units support 4-12 DSL ports with one centralized network management entity - making the 8600 the most compact and economical DSLAM available for deployment within Serving Wire Centers (SWC), remote terminals (RT) or campus environments. Paradyne's multiservices approach enables NSPs to add new services by simply adding a new card to the DSLAM. There is no need to configure multiple, independent platforms.

Each of the line cards in the HotWire 8600 may be used in Paradyne's HotWire 8800 DSLAM, allowing low cost, future migration, as the line count in the SWC goes above 68. The combination of the HotWire 8600 and the HotWire 8800 allows NSPs to deploy DSL into both low density and high density locations at comparable per-line price points, encouraging rapid, wide-scale service deployment.

The HotWire 7900 Series represents Paradyne's entry in the large and growing worldwide market for symmetric, digital high-speed communications products using HDSL and SDSL technology. Paradyne's HotWire 7900 Series consists of a family of HDSL (4-wire) and SDSL (2-wire) E1 and T1 products designed to provide access to E1 and T1 network services for PTTs and telcos, local access providers and large campus network operators who need to deploy fractional and full-rate E1 and T1 services over long loop distances.
