Navio NC Navigator Now Shipping In IBM Network Station July 24, 1997
Navio Communications, Inc. and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced the shipment of Navio NC Navigator(TM) Internet browser software on the full line of IBM Network Stations. Navio NC Navigator, based on Netscape Navigator technology, allows enterprises to seamlessly integrate web-based applications on network computers with full Netscape Navigator compatibility. Navio NC Navigator is a version of Netscape Navigator optimized for the demands of Network Computers. Requiring minimal local resources and supporting central administration, Navio NC Navigator provides Network Computer and thin client operating systems a robust platform for web browsing, Internet access and deployment of intranet applications using existing client/server systems. "As the industry's premier browser, NC Navigator is the browser of choice for many of our Network Station customers as they implement Intranet solutions," said Jim Gant, vice president of marketing for IBM's Network Computer Division. Navio NC Navigator is available immediately and is a standard offering for all IBM Network Station products. Customers who currently own a Network Station can download the software free of charge from IBM's website at http://www.ibm.com/nc. "IBM has made the right choice in selecting Navio NC Navigator for its line of Network Stations," said Wei Yen, President and CEO of Navio Communications, Inc. "IBM's leadership in "thin client" technology and its large installed base of terminals provide a powerful opportunity for Network Stations to lead Fortune 1000 computing into the millenium." Together, Navio NC Navigator and the IBM Network Station offer corporations complete access to the Internet and enterprise networks. IBM Network Stations running Navio NC Navigator maintain the benefits of central administration while providing integrated email and World Wide Web access. In addition, Navio NC Navigator has integrated Java and JavaScript allowing users to access the growing offering of applications and applets, dramatically reducing the costs associated with development. Navio NC Navigator integrates seamlessly with existing client/server architectures, preserving customer's investment in existing systems. It is based on open standards reducing the cost of developing applications and support; and since Navigator has the same "look and feel" as PC versions, there are no hidden retaining costs associated with deployment on Network Computers. Navio Communications, Inc. develops client and server software that delivers Internet solutions to companies and consumers on non-PC devices. Navio offers NC Navigator products for the new generation of thin clients including those offered by IBM, HP, Tektronix and HDS, as well as Navio TV Navigator products for consumer electronics devices. Navio Communications, Inc. is headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA. Source: Navio Communications Inc. |
