InPower Demonstrates New Generation Of Web-enabled Strategic HR Applications

June 4, 1997

InPower Inc. today demonstrated a new generation of Web-enabled Strategic HR applications at the annual IHRIM (International Association for Human Resource Information Management) Conference in Seattle, Wash.

InPower, a leading provider of client/server-based strategic human resources management systems, will bundle web-enabled self-service events with their HR and Pay product offerings, and will include the ability to generate World Wide Web thin-client applications in their InPower Tools product offering.

InPower demonstrated a suite of Java-enabled employee self-service application events at the annual IHRIM trade show. These events, which enable employees to interact directly with the corporate Human Resource Management System over the corporate Intranet or from home via the Internet, will be generally available with the release in InPower 3.4 in October 1997.

Applications included in the suite allow employees to make inquiries and updates to personal data based on changes in family status, relocation, career management and financial planning.

The self-service applications shown at IHRIM consist of standard HTML pages that execute server-side Java application objects to enforce business rules and perform database updates. The Java execution environment is based on KIVA Enterprise Server technology licensed from KIVA Software (See InPower Inc. and KIVA Software Corporation Announce Partnership Agreement, June 3, 1997).

InPower will also bundle the KIVA technology in InPower Tools 4.0 to enable customers to develop n-tiered InPower application objects which can be executed from Web- or Windows-based thin client front-ends. InPower Tools 4.0 will also ship in October 1997. The self-service events and Tools 4.0 will be available for early customer testing during Q3 1997.

"Internet/Intranet capabilities have become a core requirement for HR systems," according to Michael Green, president and CEO of InPower. "Our customers are pushing HR system access directly into the hands of occasional users such as line managers and employees. The prohibitive costs of deploying and maintaining dual systems make an integrated, n-tiered solution like InPower the only cost-effective alternative."

Features and Functions

InPower 3.4 will include Web-based events to perform inquiry and update to a variety of employee personal information, including address and emergency contact updates, W-4 and direct deposit instruction updates, and benefits inquiries. Employees can view open positions or training classes, and review pay stubs or leave balances.

The applications are fully compatible with InPower 3.4 and following releases, and are upward compatible with InPower 4.x events. The events will be initially available on Windows/NT server platforms running the Oracle RDBMS, with additional UNIX platforms and databases to follow.
