Gemstone/Sun Expand Partnership To Drive JavaBeans Usage By Hosting Free Nationwide Seminars May 22, 1997
GemStone(R) Systems Inc. today announced that it has expanded its activities with Sun(R) Microsystems Inc. to drive adoption of Java(TM) and JavaBeans(TM) application development for large-scale enterprise applications. Activities include: -- Implementing the industry's first distributed JavaBeans architecture for partitioning JavaBeans components between Java clients and GemStone/J(TM) object application servers. Developers use Sun's Java(TM) Studio(TM) visual JavaBeans authoring tool and GemBuilder/J for Beans for application partitioning. -- A 15-city educational seminar series jointly sponsored by Sun and GemStone to demonstrate the capabilities of JavaBeans and GemStone/J technology for developing large-scale, mission-critical, transactional applications. GemStone and Sun's combined efforts on the products and the seminar series are aimed at easing the task of developing production enterprise applications. Developers no longer need to deal with low-level infrastructure issues in order to build distributed Java applications. "Building sophisticated, multi-user applications is now virtually as simple as building standalone applications in terms of the steps needed to prepare the application for deployment," said Bill Hostmann, GemStone director of product marketing. "We are seeing tremendous interest in this capability from the development community, and it makes the Java Studio authoring tool and GemStone/J the obvious choice for most business applications." Joe Keller, director of marketing, software business unit, Sun Microsystems Inc., added, "With Java(TM) WorkShop(TM) and Java Studio, Sun provides users with powerful JavaBeans creation -- and application-authoring environments to easily and visually create Java solutions. Seminar attendees will get detailed first-hand information on Java development and deployment." To help educate users about JavaBeans application development for enterprise applications, GemStone and Sun are launching a 15-city, North American seminar series beginning June 3, in San Francisco. More than 2,000 users are expected to attend the series of free half-day seminars. Users may register via the companies' web sites at http://www.gemstone.com or http://www.sun.com/workshop; via e-mail at seminar@gemstone.com; or by phone at 1-888-276-6187.
