Microsoft Rival Says It Is Ready To Dominate Set-Top Market With Over 2 Million Units Sold Prior to Retail Launch

October 20, 1997

WebSurfer announced today that it is ready to explode onto retail shelves in early November and is poised to become the no. 1 Internet TV set-top box in the world.

WebSurfer has deliberately maintained a lower profile, but is enthusiastic about it's rapidly approaching retail launch. "We've had great success working with industry partners. It's time to introduce WebSurfer directly to the consumer. When WebSurfer hits the shelves, sales volumes will skyrocket! " said John Neufeld, WebSurfer Channel Sales Manager. WebSurfer already has over 2 million units sold on contract worldwide through partnerships with ISPs and Telcos.

WebSurfer continues to receive rave reviews since being introduced to industry professionals earlier this year, at Comdex and E3. Powered by an Intel DX4 100Mhz microprocessor, WebSurfer is the most advanced and feature packed Internet TV set-top box in the world. WebSurfer is the first to offer Web-based E-mail, a unique innovation that provides freedom to access electronic mail from remote locations. WebSurfer also offers the ability to create and host Personal Web Pages, compose Word Processing documents and includes a Parallel Port for printing (also allows for zip drive hook-up). The hardware features 8MB RAM, 4MB flash memory, an internal 33.6K-bps data/fax modem and a 128KB cache, making it the most powerful WebSurfer to hit the market. WebSurfer boasts a uniquely engineered infrared keyboard and remote control, each with a built-in mouse, which allow users to navigate Web pages freely. WebSurfer has even made considerations for future software upgrades, such as Internet Telephony, by including a hands-free gooseneck microphone. With the click of a button users will be able to upgrade WebSurfer software directly over the Internet.

"Websurfer is a breakthrough product that has been engineered in the true spirit of the Internet, providing the public affordable and unlimited access to information. Websurfer delivers the most functionality, giving consumers exactly what they want," said Paul Batra, president of WebSurfer.

An aggressive public relations campaign featuring television, radio, print, point of sale, transit and web media, has been orchestrated to effectively promote WebSurfer to the retail market segment. In the coming weeks, WebSurfer will formally announce details of recently signed deals with top ISP's and Telcos.
