Gateway Data Sciences Corporation (Nasdaq: GDSCE) today announced that The Walking Company has successfully implemented Release 1.0 of Transact™ in the first phase of a planned chain-wide roll out. Transact, the industry's first retail point-of-sale software product developed in Java™, is the cornerstone of Gateway's Intelligent Store™ initiative, designed to bring a greater level of information, intelligence, and customer focus to retail store operations.

Transact is designed to run on a wide range of hardware platforms, operating systems and relational database management systems, allowing retailers to effectively leverage both present and future investments in store systems technology. Transact features an intuitive, easy to learn and use graphical interface, supports most commonly used point-of-sale functions, and in the next release, which is due to ship by yearend, will provide advanced features such as powerful customer information management, time and attendance, receiving and transfers, and a flexible data reporting subsystem.
