NetChannel's "Win Your Mom E-mail Sweepstakes" Challenges Web-Surfers To Get Mom Online October 31, 1997
Moms who don't call or write are the target of NetChannel's latest promotion challenging online users to get techno-phobic moms affordable technology they will actually use -- Web-enhanced television featuring easy-to-use e-mail. NetChannel's Win Your Mom E-mail Sweepstakes, to be launched on November 1, with programming partners A&E, CBS Sportsline, CDnow, Ticketmaster and others is a reversal of the traditional pitch targeting parents to get products for their kids that make it easier and less expensive to write or call home.
"We're educating online consumers with moms who are curious about the Internet but intimidated by computers or unwilling to spend more than $2,000 for a new computer," said Jim Gustke, NetChannel's vice president of marketing. "NetChannel is the perfect solution for consumers interested in the simplicity of television to access the resources of the Web." Win Your Mom E-mail offers sweepstakes entrants the opportunity to win one of three RCA Network Computers, valued at $249 each, with three months of free NetChannel service, valued at $59.85. No purchase is necessary to enter the sweepstakes. Winners will be selected randomly on January 8. Online users can find out about Win Your Mom E-mail by clicking on banner ads that will run on NetChannel partner sites and then register to win on the sweepstakes page at http://www.netchannel.net/mom.The promotion is an example of how NetChannel is working creatively with its programming partners to drive off-line consumers to the Internet. "By partnering with NetChannel, we have the opportunity to reach consumers who are not currently on-line, but want to be," said Alan Citron, president of Ticketmaster Multimedia. "Win Your Mom E-mail is a great example of how we are working cooperatively to target new consumers and raise their awareness of on-line ticketing." The online sweepstakes rounds out an aggressive marketing effort for the '97 Christmas season consisting of a national television category building and strong retail support for the RCA Network Computer.
