InstallShield Software Corp. today announced the availability of InstallShield® Java™ Edition installation development system version 1.0, the first development tool for creating cross-platform Java application installations. InstallShield Java Edition includes new features that enable developers to create true cross-platform installations, providing a consistent experience for users of all supported operating systems and Java Virtual Machines (VM) version 1.0.2 and higher.

A Single Installation Runs on Multiple Platforms

By building a single Java package file, InstallShield Java Edition allows developers to create and maintain only one installation that will run on all supported VMs. It adds only 40K of overhead to the installation for efficient distribution across networks or the Internet.

These features include the ability to display dialogs with company and application information, readme files, and license agreements, plus uninstallation, silent mode support, the ability to create launch scripts, and more. InstallShield Java Edition also includes Windows(R)-specific functionality for creating shortcuts, modifying the registry, and specifying self-registering files.
