EarthWeb/Gamelan Offers New Products November 12, 1996 EarthWeb, Inc., a developer of Java-based software for the Internet, announces major new products and new expansion capital financing. EarthWeb's products and services enable the creation of online communities which allow for Internet-based collaboration. Gamelan, EarthWeb's highly trafficked Java resource service, has been endorsed by Sun Microsystem's JavaSoft as the Official Directory for Java Resources on the Internet. Gamelan is further expanding to enable secure online shopping for Java-related software and content. EarthWeb recently built upon Gamelan's success to release the first in a series of Java products aimed at the Web development community. The "Gamelan Java Applet Library" CD-ROM and "The Official Gamelan Directory" book were published through Macmillan Computer Publishing, the largest publisher of computer books and a leading distributor of software, and are now available in stores nationwide. The CD-ROM contains 120 of the best Java Applets ever created and the book reviews 850 of Gamelan's top Java resources. Another EarthWeb Java product soon to be released is EarthWeb Chat, a Java-powered, cross-platform live conferencing product, now being beta-tested in nearly 10,000 Web site chat rooms, making it one of the most widely distributed Java applets in the world. Extending EarthWeb's collaborative technologies to the new Internet consumer, EarthWeb is working with US West Interactive Services, Inc. to create Dive In, a national localized information service. EarthWeb is the key technology partner on this initiative. EarthWeb recently received significant funding from Warburg, Pincus Ventures, L.P., which ranks among the world's largest venture capital funds. Warburg Pincus Ventures' long-term investment in EarthWeb is its first in the Internet sector and one of the largest to date for any New York Internet focused software and services company.
