Dae Woo to Launch Internet TV System

November 26, 1996

At a demonstration in Seoul on November 14th, Dae Woo Electronics announced that it would begin shipping an Internet TV system by the end of the month. The system has a 29" monitor, a built-in Internet module that provides rapid access, and provides personal computer communication functions such as e-mail.

The company developed the Internet television with a staff of 40 and an investment of two billion won (2.6 million dollars) so that it could be used by anyone not familiar with computers simply by using the TV tuner and Internet buttons for access.

Dae Woo also plans to offer 21" and 25" models for export to North America, Japan and Europe. Sony, and Philips have developed similar systems in America, and Sharp began offering a wide-screen TV with an Internet module earlier this month.

Dae Woo, however, claims its models are more competitively priced and more functional.
