October 31, 1996

Applix, Inc. (NASDAQ:APLX) showcased today at Suns' Java Computing Solutions Event, a demonstration of the Applix Anyware Office, a new member of the Anyware family of solutions. The Applix Anyware Office is a robust suite of office applications and tools specifically targeted to allow users to fully utilize Java technology with Sun's JavaStation.

"Anyware Office running on the JavaStation is a powerful combination," said Scott McNealy, chairman, president and CEO, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "With the JavaStation and Anyware Office, we're delivering on the promise of a low-cost, fully-functional personal productivity alternative for the enterprise desktop."

Unlike other Java office solutions, the Anyware Office delivers the best of the thin client, three tiered architecture, better and faster, offering program downloads at a fraction of the size of competing solutions. This solution can deliver benefits today, to more users' desktops, and there is no waiting for wide scale deployment of broadband technology, or need to deploy large amounts of memory in each desktop.

Applix's Anyware Office will include the most complete set of office tools for the NC user. All Anyware Office components support continuous linking and embedding, customizable user interfaces, integrated macro language for task automation, printing to any postscript or PCL printer, document delivery via Email or Fax, conversion filters for over 40 word processing, spreadsheet and graphic files types and are Email-enabled, and web aware. Also included is a clip art gallery. Included in the Anyware Office suite are:
