Acorn Unvails The Acorn NC Netstation
August 1, 1996
The NetStation is the revolutionary new Network Computer from Acorn.
It is designed specifically to work on today's networks, and to access
the wealth of information on the Internet. It incorporates a WWW browser,
email, word processing and applet downloading at low cost.
Network computing makes information, entertainment, education and communication
services highly accessible for a much wider audience. With Acorn's NetStation
this increased ease of access comes with the advantage of significantly
lower cost than a conventional PC.
The Netstation can deployed in the corporate, educational and domestic
environment, where users will realise the benefits in the following ways:
- Business
In the corporate enterprise environment, low capital investment cost,
minimum maintenance overhead, simple core functionality and global access
through ethernet or ATM connectivity are critical. The NetStation can satisfy
all these requirements and is compatible with MS Word software and most
PC monitors meaning that it fits easily into most office environments.
- Education
The NetStation is ideal for the school and further education environment,
where budgets remain tight. The NetStation will provide children with access
to a far greater range of services at a realistic and affordable price
using LAN, dial-up or ISDN connectivity via monitors or TVs.
- Home
For the home or small office user, the NetStation is perfect. In addition
to World Wide Web browsing, email and word processing applications, the
NetStation also offers access to games, home shopping and banking and other
networked services over the normal telephone line and a TV or monitor.
With ports for a keyboard, mouse and printer the NetStation is both
adaptable and flexible in its use. It is easy to use, is low cost and requires
no manual maintenance or upgrades.
